DivorcesIt doesn’t matter how old the children are when the parents decide to divorce, it is always painful. You often see that young children think it is their fault that their parents are fighting and are getting a divorce. The child as a survival strategy might become ‘a pleaser’, comfort one of the parents to save the family or even start acting out.
Everybody involved is affected by a divorce but the effect of a bad relationship can also be great on the children. Some children are standing between the fighting parents, sometimes even literally, and might even become mediators between them. If the parents do finally get a divorce they can feel they have failed. In many cases when people are getting a divorce they will fight over all sorts of things such as the children, money, possessions, etc. This is not very nice to witness for the child(ren), no matter what age. Many children from a broken home, who have become adults, have problems with commitment and bonding. If you have trouble finding a steady relationship and/or has fear of commitment it might be the case that emotionally you haven’t deal with the divorce properly. |
