Therapeutic drawing workshop
What do you see in this drawing?
For many years drawing has been an accepted practice as a healing tool in the world of Life-Coaching/Counselling. Art is regarded as the visual language of the subconscious mind. To interpret a drawing is to gain a deeper insight into the client’s inner state of mind at the subconscious level. Expressive counselling tools such as interactive drawing enhance emotional wellbeing and resilience. The therapeutic outcome will improve with the use of expressive therapy.
In this interactive Drawing workshop you’ll learn how to use this powerful modality successfully in your own practice. You’ll be introduced to three different methods of interactive drawing therapy. Another important part of the workshop is how to work in an encouraging but non-directive and non- judgemental way with your clients. Where does encouraging end and intervention start?
In this workshop Henri van Amerongen will introduce you to the next drawing methods:
simple sketches and impressions, which offer insight into the emotional and mental state of your client. You’ll get some drawing assignments two weeks at forehand to bring them into the workshop. Always interesting and fun to see how people draw and what you can get out if it.
drawings of families and family members, and visualising family ties can be especially revealing when viewed with the systemic constellation work (Hellinger) in mind. And you will be surprised what you will discover if you hold your drawings against the light.
Drawing ‘outside the box’:
This interesting method challenges the position of the coach/counsellor as creative facilitator. How far ‘out’ is ‘outside the box’? Are there limitations to where you can take your client, using this creative method? How do you know when ‘outside the box’ does not mean ‘lost’? Drawing can be a very powerful and fun tool after all!
You’ll learn by experiencing: during the workshop. This offers the opportunity to experience (the results of) the methods yourself and to get a deeper insight into your own inner state of mind.
This workshop is open for everybody who is interested in interpreting drawings and to work on their own personal grow and development. But also meant for practitioners to enhance their work, this drawing technique is complementary to other methods.
